9.30 last night I got a call from an unknown number. I dismissed it.

Minutes later a text from the same number asking who I was.

He said I called him. I said I hadn't.

He said if I had WhatsApp he'd send a screenshot proving I had.

I said I don't have WhatsApp and I was not going to send him a screenshot of my call history to prove I hadn't.

Any idea how this could have happened? My call history shows no calls were made to that number and the last call was early afternoon.

Numbers can be spoofed. Also it may have been an attempt to get info from you. One wonders why anyone would be that keen to contact a wrong number anyway. Seems a bit weird.

It sounds like someone is trying to scam you somehow .... just ignore it.

I have been getting What's App messages from unknown numbers, usually from other countries and report them as Scam. Never phone calls though. Have you tried Reverse look up to see where the number is from or if it comes up as an alert

It comes up as a gas servicing company - I phoned it this morning and it is legitimate.

I don't have Whatsapp and I'm not sure if the call was to his phone or Whatsapp
