I love The Fog which is scary and definitely not gory. That's the original film with Jamie Lee Curtis.
I have posted this many times - it's 'Dead Of Night'. It's a 'portmanteau' film - four stories inside the main film. made in 1947, British, no blood, but the fourth section scared me witless. i was about nine when i saw it, and it's given me a serious aversion to dummies and puppets which I have to this day - I will not go within touching distance of a dummy or a puppet.
Rosemary's Baby scared the bejeesus out of me long ago and probably still would. But if you want non-gory try and catch the original Cat People, in which, apart from some shadows, nothing much happens but it's still spooky.
poltergeist 2 (l`m still havin nightmares about the man in it)
carrie
Nosferatu, the 1930's one. I remember watching it when i was a kid really late at night without me mum or dad knowing. I thought i was really grown-up. Very scary! although not so scary now i am grown up!
chucky the evil doll scares the s**t out of me
The original 'The Ring'.
When I was 14 me and a couple of mate bluffed our way in to see the Exorcist, we had never seen anything like it. I admit it certainly scared the brown stuff outta me.
Most unsettling was The Exorcist which I saw in the cinema back in the late 80s when I think it was still banned on video. Not quite on the same level but also good the end of Blair Witch Project and the first 30 mins of Jeepers Creepers...
The Haunting with Liam Neeson and Ms. Zeta Jones, i watched it on tv when we first got surround sound i have never needed to go for a wee so badly but dare not get out of my chair. The scary orpanage owner was definately living in my fireplace that night.
In the early 90's when we first had cable fitted the cable guy wired my TV to my Hi-Fi, one of the first films we watched was a nightmare on elm street . The scene were Freddie runs his nails down a blackboard the sound bounced from speaker to speaker, just the thought of it know gives me goosebumps
The serpent and the rainbow. Voodoo and being burried alive. It is far scarier to mess with the mind on this level, than the wack and slash movies.
I am petrified of the water so Jaws has my vote as well. Man vs nature...nature 1, man dinner =)
recently - wolf creek and the grudge. when younger - the excorcist.
