Utterly shameful.

Watching the proceedings earlier today, not only is she using the excuse that she can’t remember – but also that she is too stupid to understand basic sentences written in a report (commissioned by the Post Office).

It's pretty indicative of how some of the people in charge of large & important organisations are just placemen (or women) and have neither the qualifications or expertise to do a proper job.

Alwyn Lyons also used the defence she couldnt remember - I read her witness statement , either couldnt remember, wasnt part of her role  or wasn't told - so what was she doing at the PO, SFA it seems!

Was too trusting... i have heard it all now!

Can retirement to her study with a bottle of whisky and a revolver be far away?

I am sure the MPs who listened to her testimony to the select committee in 2016, will not be impressed with this. Beer has trawled all the documents his questions are spot on. Hiding behind 'I didn't know' 'no one told me' and 'I don't remember' doesn't work when Beer has all the emails that prove otherwise.

She is very clever, and so far is avoiding the traps he is setting her, but her denials get more and more absurd the deeper hole she digs for herself.

she would probly shoot a subpostmaster!

I’m looking forward to Vennells denying knowing anything about the Post Office spending £100 million defending the case against the 555 sub-postmasters, knowing that they had no valid defence.

Correction, the select committee appearance was in 2015.

I'm still convinced that no prosecutions will come out of all this, but I hope I'm wrong. I really do.

I doubt anyone will be prosecuted too.

A predecessor to Vennels bought a very expensive software package that was flawed. Rather than admit their error and ask for their money back, they decided on a cover up which included blaming and jailing their own postmasters.
And on today's evidence, the lack of taking responsibility continues.

A despicable person.

I'd like to think criminal charges are applicable, but I fear being shamed at this enquiry is all the punishment they'll get.

I haven't been following this trial, but could she be facing a custodial sentence?

nope it is an inquiry and not a trial.  Trial - prosecutor and defence basically

Here - you have the judge ( Wyn WIlliams who is rather good) as Lord High-and-mighty and a lawyer ( bug-eyed, eye popper Jason Beer) presenting evidence from witnesses, but only the good ( contested) bits

then the core participants lawyers have  a go. Paula is stuck in the witness box - and I found her tears insulting... for three days and the tricoteuses ( SPM lawyers) get their whack in on Friday afternoon. - and after the nnoise dies down, Sir Wyn ( bless, a welsh solomon) said "I get to decide who is telling the truth" oo-er judgy baby ! so the hacks and wiggies are here only to adduce the facts. Yessir judgie-baby !

Total cost is £100m.

Each day is around 5 h. Streamed on the internet. If you have been involved in any case ( me GMC and Inquest) then it is absolutely compelling vision.

Lord Arbuthnot ( not a law lord) said: " there has been a lot of 'I dont remember.' and 'I havent seen this until today'  - and even a smidge of " but you wrote this!"

Sky is split screen and we have had a lot of fun lip reading the comments of th watching SPMs frm of course Fenny Compton Village Hall
