If you don't download kindle unlimited book/s for at least a month, have you lost that months payments?

No. Not quite sure what you mean, all books flagged as Kindle Unlimited are available to download whenever you want, I suppose there may be specials only available for a specific month but I've not seen any such.

Kindle unlimited has a monthly subscription, £9.49?, in the UK and it will cost you that whether you download any books or not, till you cancel the subscription.

It's just that I've been very lax with checking my bank statements (I know) for the last two months and I had forgotten all about Kindle Unlimited.

I'm not really bothered about using it again so I'll cancel and say goodbye to my payments. 

My fault but there you go.
