Thank you jno

Once you've paid the fare for a black cab ride in London, you won't have any money left for a tip anyway!

A 2-mile journey typically costs around £15: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/taxis-and-minicabs/taxi-fares
For that sort of fare, I'd probably add on a tip of £2 to £3.

As an alternative to black cabs, and safer than unregulated mini cabs or users there is a really pro company that I use called Addison Lee.   Not a lot cheaper but you can ask for a price before you travel with them. Pay that then just tip the driver

Round up -  good advice. Manchester make sure the yellow light  is lit and they have turned on the meter

I am sure this doesnt happen in London

2 mile: £8-12 - Manchester. The  no meter guy tried £20. So I called him a crook and a thief ( in Arabic) but that is another story  - he video'd me. I think the translator commented that he cdnt publish this as racial abuse as it was true. It is acceptable here to use your brothers/uncles licence

Mini cabs are regulated - the drivers have to be licensed which includes DBR checks. That applies to Uber drivers as well - they are private hire drivers the same as any other.

Sorry Barry, but sadly there have been many instances of mini cab and uber drivers using shared paperwork, e.g one works days one works nights in same vehicle, and if they strongly resemble one another it's generally not picked up until something happens.  For a while various cities banned UBer for repeated cases of non insurance, and problems with charging.  When you live in an area you know which companies are more reputable, in a strange city your choices can be limited.  It's why I have taxi numbers for London, Liverpool, Cromer, Norwich, and Aberystwyth on my phone.

Uber here we know the amount before we book the trip. No money paid to driver. After journey asked to rate service and tip  €1 or €2 or more if we want to. When booking at least 3 price and vehicle options available
