To be fair, I will say that site & the other one often cited here both post more correct answers than not. However, imo, even one incorrect answer (that could lead to someone not winning a prize draw, eg) - & there are actually quite a lot - is unacceptable.
I recall one occasion when a long-established AB'er (not current, as far as I'm aware) had obviously Googled a clue, found an answer (on whichever site it was) & posted an incomprehensible string of consonants as a result. Don't ask, the chances of my finding the thread are slim to none.
There are enough seasoned solvers on AB to answer pretty much anything thrown at them. It might take a while on occasion, but we'll usually get there between us 😊
Nac - the puzzle (GK style, often obscure words/phrases) is in Prospect magazine, which used to be get-at-able but as far as I can see, now requires at least a "trial run" subscription.
Lie-in King, thanks for the info on the actual puzzle. It doesn't sound hugely enticing for me, I prefer 'straight cryptics', if such a thing exists! I know I often dislike the clues in the RTE puzzle - I can cope with quirky, but daft doesn't work for me.
Thanks too for your thoughts re the 'help', cheats sites. I think they are, or can be, useful - but I know that they can throw up rather random answers (ie just words or phrases that get the blanks filled in!).
PS Apologies, kapple, for the meandering off course here! I think 'all tears' is the likeliest answer.
