Euros - Love Or Loathe?
We love the major sporting events and are looking forward to the Euros (Football) starting later this week, and excited about the Olympics next month.
We don't go in for the merchandise and not great ones for flag waving or gathering in pub gardens but we have our wall chart at the ready to follow all the “ifs” and “buts”!
The only aspect I dislike about international football is hearing the “it’s coming home” repeatedly! I hope it is but if it’s not then lose early 🏴 🏴 🏴 🇮🇪 and let us enjoy the rest of the tournament.
Do you love it or loathe it?

Although I've refereed countless local league football matches, as well as running school teams, etc, and getting involved in the game in other ways, I've never enjoyed football as a spectator sport. It simply doesn't interest me at all.
However, as I hardly ever watch any telly anyway (typically just an hour or two each month), I won't be one of the people complaining about football filling our TV screens for weeks on end either!
A friend of mine works at Warburtons and someone there has devised a competition for Euro '24 in which the correct scores of EVERY first round match has to be predicted, the last 16 teams, then 8, then 4, then the finalists and eventual winners.
In addition, the top individual scorer and top scoring team have also to be predicted. Of course, my friend suggested i join him with the £10 entry fee and that i should be the one to get the slide rule and protractor out for the predictions😵
Sadly for England fans (myself included) and anyone who has backed them at the ridiculous odds (IMHO) of 3/1 favs, i have us to fall to Italy in the 1/4 finals - possibly on Pens 😭
I also have France to beat the host nation Germany in the final, with Mbappe the top scorer. I will, of course, watch as many games as i possibly can.
Yes, it's coming home again isn't it? The England fans hype themselves up not realising, or refusing to realise, that England aren't as good as people think they are. They'll give anyone a good game, no doubt about that, but they aint winners. Sorry folks. I hope I'm wrong, but in recent games they struggled against Malta and lost to Iceland. Euro champs, or potential champs, just don't do that. They might make it out of the group, but I think that's it.
