I dont know so that means I can answer authoritatively.

The are meant to accent and bring out the svelte qualities of the wearers calf ( muscle)

If you are thinking of getting some then do not attempt to walk the Camino again whilst wearing them.

They weren't when I was a teenager but they would be impossible for me to wear now.  Anything other than flat makes me feel as if I'm standing on top of the Eiffel Tower.

oh sensible shoes and tweeds for the Camino.

and excruciating to witness if worn by lorry drivers ( sparkle week end, 12th July this year Manchester). But they have fun so no harm done

The nearest I ever got to wearing high heels was when I had Beatle boots with Cuban heels.  I can't remember now if they were uncomfortable or not.

I never found them painful, but had to work on getting the walk right.

They were OK xc when you fell off them.

There's a journal of foot and ankle injuries.

Who knew?

Likewise, LB - I had a gorgeous pair of black Jayne Debsters which I wore every day to my office, until I snapped the heel in one of Adelaide's notorious pathways and they were never the same again 😢😢

mind you, this was all of ....oh help, I'm not sure how many years ago 🤔

i can only answer from experience; Yes.

I never wore heels much, as my ankles had a tendency to give way. That made anything other than low heels dodgy.

I've worn them in the past, when young with no problems.  Now with dodgy knees and hip they are a distinct 'No-no'.  However, due to a couple of misplaced lumbar vertebrae, I can't wear flat shoes.

Now add tothe mix that my recent hip op. has left my r. leg a full inch longer than my left...... shoes are no longer fun. :(

PS I know  a 70 yr.old who wouldn't beseen dead without 3" heels (unless they were her gardening shoes).

totally bonkers - what many will do in the name of fashion astounds me

You need to learn to walk in them when you are young but I have never found them uncomfortable or painful.  That would come from them being ill fitting and throwing your foot too far forward or being too narrow at the top.  I  quite like stutting around in them (if I have to)

Surely they are just walking on tippy toe everywhere ? Probably easier if you passed your ballet lessons with flying colours.

Having worn 5" stilletoes to work back in my office days all I can say ball of foot cushions, and good heelgrips are no substitute for soft leather and a fully cushioned sole.  It's not just exclusivity that make the likes of Jimmy Choo, and Loubertins popular, they are a lot more comfortable. Only problem was the old style escalators, the treads were just wide enough to pull the bottoms off the heel.  Trips to the menders every few days gets expensive
