Speeding

Does the speeding laws apply to vechicles with engine or could you been stopped for cycling (push bike) to fast...say going down a hill on a bike at 30mph in a 20mph limit.

And even running too fast..obviously refering to the 5 and 10mph limits...or maybe thats going too far.

There may still be the offence of riding a cycle furiously. If not, there's Section 28 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 which says., " A person who rides a cycle on a road recklessly is guilty of an offence." I seem to recall there's an offence of cycling too fast in the Royal parks too.

The usual speeding laws refer to a 'motor vehicle', so they don't apply to cyclists (or pedestrians!).

As TCL has indicated, a cyclist could be charged with riding recklessly.

As far as pedestrians are concerned, there's no specific legislation but if anyone repeatedly tried to break the world record for the 100 metre sprint, on the pavements of London's busy Oxford Street, I'm sure that the police could find something in the Public Order Acts to cover the situation ;-)

Lol. I really can't believe I wasn't the first person to come up with this question. I was thinking of the running one too after I worked out that a hundred metre runner could do more than 20mph
