What a load of bovine guano! It's one area where I am delighted for the Scots.

I don't see it being good or bad. A missed target is nothing to celebrate but neither is creating a pointless or an excessive one.

it probably equates to about 1% of smokers in India stopping smoking for a year

Figures for 2022 show that emissions fell by 50% from its 1990 baseline.

This is slightly down on the previous year's figures but well short of its target of a 53.8% reduction.

So we're talking about 3.8% of Scotland's emissions.

The UK as a whole represents less than 1% of global emissions. I imagine that Scotland's emissions are about 10% of that (so 0.1% of the global total). So the excess is 3.8% of that (so about 0.0038% of the global total).

Meanwhile, China has in planning or under construction, coal fired powered stations which will increase their capacity by more than 20 times the UK's entire electricity consumption (from all sources).

Nurse! Nurse!

Yep the judge sees it. If Scotland did nothing it barely registers on the UK total. If UK did nothing it barely registers on the world total. Yet moronic politicians will happily persue this pointless policy.

so they might not have to stop smoking for the whole year then ?

All the cows in india's farts probably dwarf the UK's total emmissions.

Probably.

Anyway, everything will be back on track when Grangemouth closes and we import out road fuels from who knows where.
