Only buy rocket - love it

I buy Sweet Gem whole. Watercress and rocket bagged

I've not bought or eaten iceberg lettuce in ages. When I did, I liked a BIG wedge, smothered in mayo. Took a while to eat 🤣

Yes, I am referring to the recent e coli outbreak. It put me off buying an iceberg lettuce but did buy one today. The soak in vinegar and salt was my idea of washing  away the bacteria which might have been  present. Pie in the sky really.

Iceberg lettuce is like cold wet polystyrene.

What's the point of it?

I buy the little gem lettuce occasionally. The only bagged greens I get is spinach.

Bags of rocket or mixed leaves.

As already mentioned, the outbreak seems to be connected to meal deal sandwiches, not bagged lettuce. And according to the BBC, all the cases were before May 31.

Everybody except us seems to grow lettuce in our village. They all grow far more than they can eat, so we are given any amount. In fact we were given a large curly one yesterday.

(Ditto courgettes !)

I buy the little gems and either rocket or water cress whch i then chop up with the lettuce to act as a 'bed' for my salads.

No, but got a garden full of Rocket, gourmet mix, baby spinach and various mustards.  Trying some Webbs wonderful this year as not had one for ages.

I'm puzzled as to why you cant keep bought ones though.  In our fridge the icebourg lasts about 10 days and bagged once open if you take it out and put it in a large tomato tray thingy (turn it regularly) it lasts 4-5 days.  In the bag it lasts quite a while as I understand they put some gas in there to remove the air.

"as it doesn't  keep."

I bought a little machine for the fridge. It keeps everything fresh for a good 2 weeks, even herbs that usually go a bit slimey.

Forgot to mention, I always soak chopped up little gem & ice-berg lettuces in salt water before eating.
