Retro Foods Making A Come Back

I have one bought in England long ago, a model HR 173 in perfect working order, but the starter cord snapped. Trying to replace it yesterday, I made a complete balls of it, the spring exploded out of its housing and I need a recoil spring starter assembly.
They seem to be common items but I can't find one listed as being compatible with that number, though they must be available, it's not complicated, it just bolts on to the top of the mower.
A complete shot in the dark; but has anyone had experience of this please?

Years ago we had a petrol Flymo with that system; I was due to go into hospital for an operation I knew would prevent me starting the mower for some months so I cut a hole in the flywheel cover and used my electric drill and my socket set to start it.
bhg; That's ingenious, but it needs quite a strong pull on the cord, (though my wife can start it). I don't think an electric drill would start it.
It's a bit of an ask on AB, but you never know, someone might say, 'My neighbour's a lawn-mower mechanic, I'll ask him.' Such things have happened. 😃
Alternatively some people are good at finding things on the internet, which I am not.
