Single Dental Implant Advice

I had a back Molar removed last week. I've been reading about how my teeth may move overtime so Naturally am worried. Have any of you had a single dental implant is it painful ? Is it expensive? Or have any of you just left the gap and can happily eat go about your day with no issues. I have emailed my dentist awaiting a reply. I'd appreciate some advice in the meantime . Thanks ☺️

I've got a gap at the lower back which nobody notices.  It doesn't show in photos. The tooth was removed decades ago and the rest of my teeth are fine.

I have a bridge top front which is fine, no problems, looks good.

I think an implant costs around £3k.

It's all down to you and how you feel with the gap.

If I were in your position, I'd let it heal fully and then see how you go with it .... only you truly know how you feel about it, so see how you go with it.

I had 2 implants at the front approx 7 years ago.

I stocked up on painkillers, as I was expecting the worse after the effects of the anaesthetics eventually wore off after the procedure.  I was amazed because I felt no pain whatsoever.  I spoke to one of the receptionists a few days later and she said that different people react differently and have different experiences.  I felt no pain whatsover but my face/cheek swelled up quite a lot - I looked like I'd been batter by Mike Tyson !!  There was no pain .... but a moderate amount of discomfort.

Please bear in mind though, that this is only my personal experience and you may experience something completely different.

I think prices start at around £2k per implant .... it all depends on where you are and the dental practice.

Looking back .... it was well worth it  :)

My neighbour is starting full mouth implants in august and I pity her   Like her general teeth are not that bad. Leave the back molar alone and just get on with it

like Barry, I have a gap where a back molar was extracted. As he says, it's hardly noticeable. I asked my dentist: out of the 32 we start out with, what's the minimum we need. He said 8.

Recently, I had an implant fitted in place of one of the 2 big front teeth. My experience was the same as Giz.  Very little pain or discomfort. Just the 'Mike Tyson' face for a couple of days. (My unkind colleague said it was an improvement 🤔.)

The fixing for the implant looks like a small 'rawlplug', and the tooth was screwed in with a little socket set..........  so I felt completely at home with that 😎. Cost: £3,000.

Nothing to worry about.

erm - - - why are you asking non dentists, a dental question esp when you have a dentist ?

as Naomi says so frequently about me: ask a doctor ( here, dentist)

Sixties, dentists were very keen to remove 6s to give the 3rd molars ( 8s) room to come thro. Humans have smallish mouths. - Now you do it as needed

and I have lost at least one 8. ( fell out) with age

All the answers above (seem) to deal with cosmetic looks ( dont look like Mike Tyson but Taylor Swift, and certainly not Shane McGowan lead singer with the Pogues)

so ask him if you will be able to chew and grind

and take it from there

I thought the cost  was £1000, but £3k seems like modern costs

I was telling lu lu about my own er 6s and what happened to one of my 8s - AND added in dental practice of the  sixties

front crowns and I have a bridge which are already covered

Because of the cost, I would only entertain implants that are visible.

I have two, they cost 3K each, but were put in by one of the top implant surgeons in the UK.

Like most things, you get what you pay for.

Start with your own dentist ask for a referral, and have a consultation to discuss options.
