I'm thinking of fitting individual tread carpet rectangles to a wooden staircase. I presume they would be self-adhesive. Has anyone had any experience with these?

Do they stay stuck safely over time?

Can they be renoved without leaving a mess of adhesive on the wooden tread?

If they are well enough glued to feel/be safe, then there will be some residue - the alternative is using decorative brass head tacks and a lighter glue.

I am not a carpet fitter - this is just an opinion.
