You must always include the middle letter - in this case i- but can use each letter as many times as you like. The clue for the meaning of the eight letter word here is 'behind" - hence derriere as my suggested answer.

^^FoxLee no, the "i" would be the middle letter in the grid as the puzzle was originally formatted to show it has to be included, but requiring it to be in the middle of all solutions would limit answers to words with an odd number of letters, and there's a requirement to find an eight letter word.
