If it's the guy I'm thinking of (I only saw the last half an hour), you may know him from "The Book Group" & "Clocking Off" maybe? I think he was also in the "Canterbury Tales" episode with Billie Piper in it.

Right, I've subsequently cheated and looked at the IMDB: Derek Riddell; a very good actor I think (IF it's the right bloke!)

He seemed to get a lot of visitors in prison, he was only inside for a couple of days, on a charge of murder half the cast seemed to visit him.
