Wi Fi Always Not Connected On Messenger

My Motorola smartphone works fine with all internet, except when I do on messenger and it says you are currently offline. Yet when I check it's all connected and working fine. I can search anything on Google Chrome, go to websites, look at any emails and reply and there is no problem, but I know I'm not receiving any messages on messenger because when I go on my tablet, new messages show up. Not sure if I've switched something off accidentally can anyone help? Thanks
