Hey, I'm interested in learning the guitar and would love to know of some good websites which teach for free.

I have an acoustic guitar, but have never used it. Im not the most talented musically so if the website was basic and was broken down into very easy steps it would be helpful.

Thanks in advance =)

Check out Berkeley guiter books, they'll be available in your local friendly not-at-all-intimidating music/book store. The books are really concise and user-friendly.
Go here and learn four chords.

http://www.apassion4jazz.net/strings.html

Click in the section headed open position. The top of the diagram is equal to the top of the guitar neck (where you tune it). The vertical lines are the strings. The thickest string on the left, the thinnest on the right (If you are a right handed player).

Learn the following 4 chords ( G major, E minor, C major, D major) and you will have hundreds of songs opened up to you. Whilst this doesn't make you a virtuoso, it does keep you interested.

If you learn these chords you can now strum along to "Every breath you take" by the Police. Just strum each chord once downwards on the first word of each line and you will at least learn the verse.

G major - Every breath you take

E minor - Every move you make, etc

Also Ben E Kings - stand by me is the same chord progression. Once you learn these then move on further.

Remember though to learn these chords by clicking on the chord you neeed under the open position heading.

Good luck and most of all. - HAVE FUN!!!
google it you get a few good results
www.ibreathemusic.com and www.ultimate-guitar.com are both excellent, although perhaps aimed at the younger generations
They are still the best teaching resources that I have found for free though
