Breathes there the man,(or woman) with soul so dead,

Who never to themselves hath said,

This is my own, my native land!

Whose heart hath ne’er within him/her burn’d,

As home his/her footsteps  hath turn’d,

From wandering on a foreign strand!

She wants to come home.  Who could blame her?

sandyRoe, She is deemed a security risk - a danger.  No innocent life is worth risking to give her what she wants.

She is deemed a security risk - a danger.  No innocent life is worth risking to give her what she wants.

no it is more complex than that. You can  be a security risk and a British National and NOT be  deprived of nationality ( wh I think the judgement says, p1)

But you can be if you have two ( nationalities silly!). Here she had the power / right to apply for Pakistani nationality froo he father ( he who has fled back to Pakistan) - jus sanguinis

and their Lordships slammed down their writing tablets and screamed ( those in authority always scream, I find) " Right that is enough, she could be a pakistani!" - which I find a bit of stretch quite honestly.

And the court hearing the application to appeal ( permission to appeal not a  real appeal in itself) said ( screamed surely?) - "no prospect of success, appeal turned down"

only I cant find that judgement

Peter Pedant - that remains a 'yes' - and her parents are Bangladeshi.

of course their Lordships might have whispered - satis est, possit pakistania - they do Latin a lot

NAOMI, "[Shamima Begum's] father was filmed at extremist meetings long before she decided to leave."

She left the country with two of her friends and the father of one of those friends had been filmed at an extremist meeting.

Have you perhaps confused that friend with Shamima Begum?

Peter Pedant - that remains a 'yes' - and her parents are Bangladeshi.

I found the judgements quite complex - what did you think ?

Corby,  I haven't.

Peter Pedant, I didn't read them.

Can you post a link to your source or tell me where I can find confirmation?

You might find it by searching here.  We've talked about it before.

Can you not look?

It was the father of Amira Abase who was filmed at an Islamist event. A tenner bet with myself says thecorblyloon has a link.

This could be one of those moments where a matter of fact ends up being brushed aside as a mere trifle. 😉

Let's see.

CLONE, he's the one I found.

I couldn't mind on Begum's father being described as an extremist but a father at an extremist meeting rang a bell.
