As flowers die off, it's important to remove them fast. If left in place too long, the lower leaves may start to droop and fall off. This will leave behind only stems with tufts of leaves at the top. You can prune the stem and leaves of zebra plants back once the bract dies to a pair of leaves at the plant's base
