Anyway, in answer to the question 'how grim can you get' I suppose bedbound, in pain that no drugs will stop and with only one way out but the great and the good won't allow an end to be brought forward might be a starting point.

as far as the Swiss are concerned you have to kill yourself, you can't have family or friends mixing up your lethal drugs or switching off your machines for you. This contraption seems designed to allow you to do this.

What a good idea. Circumventing the present legislation, so one can chose a dignified demise rather than vegetate or rot in severe pain or complete mental disintegration.

I believe the atmosphere in the pod has no oxygen in it.  The user would first become unconscious before death.

Seems uncessarily complicated - an "oxygen" tent and a nitrogen cylinder would probably do the job.

Most unusual suicide I read about - a carpenter set up a guillotine over his bed timed to go off when he was asleep. His father found the 2 bits next morning! (dunno if it's true)
