Seen in the papers an advert for Royal mint collection  Is it worth going for as would do for a christmas present.

No not really, so many are made and distributed, they usually don't appreciate at all. We were given a set of the old coins pre decimalisation, all in a case untouched. When we moved home I asked about value with a coin expert, he said they were not even worth their face value.
