Can anyone recommend any good Netflix movies? We are currently enjoying having a movie night once a week with Pizza. I don't like anything too gory or anything "screamfest".

Comedy or thriller works for me.

Thanks.

Not a film but the series Monsters is amazing and very thought provoking.

Its a true crime drama probing the lives of the Menendez brothers.

I find the online lists quie useful. Here is Rotten Tom 24 list of 100 best movies on Netflix in Sept 2024.

As ell as some of the more well known titles I'd recommend Midnight Run for comedy and Emily the Criminal for a thriller.

Thanks both.

I was reading about those brothers the other day, so I will definitely give that a go when I can.

Thanks again, both.

Curly.

House of Gucci with Lady Gaga.  Neither comedy or thriller, but an excellent film.  She is a fine actress.

naomi, don't forget there are some great full-length classic movies on youtube, this for example, one of the best films ever made;

Oh ! you may have to click on 'watch on youtube'

That video is not available in this country, Khandro.  What film is it?

It's The Seventh Seal;

Does this link work ?

No sorry. If you're interested you might try googling it from there in the UK. You probably know it anyway but I've watched it many times.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that, khandro, but a long time ago.

chelle, Skipping through that list (thanks) 2 good ones I've seen are Captain Phillips and The Irishman (very long)

Thanks Khandro, I have seen the Irish man, very good. I'll put Captain Phillips on the list.

Captain Phillips is absolutely brilliant 👏

We watched Rebel Ridge last night - I can recommend.

From chelle's list we watched The Power of the Dog.

Wow! I didn't know the ref;

Psalms 22:19-22 New King James Version (NKJV)But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me! Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog. Save Me from the lion's mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen!

Benedict Cumberbatch acts his heart out with, to my ear, a pretty convincing American accent.

Definitely worth watching imo.

Yes I'm a big Cumbrebatch fan and loveed Power of the Dog.

Also really enjoyed Rebel Ridge, Aaron Pierre was impressive in the lead.

Watched "The Dig" last night. Based on a true story and starring Ralph Fiennes, it's the story of finding the burial site at Sutton Hoo. Fascinating watch.

Tried DDIL's Monsters. It began with two shouty men in the back of a limo, it seemed  every fifth word was the F word.

I'm no prude, but if these were to be the protagonists, I could see this was to be the forthcoming speech narrative, and we agreed to switch off.

Is everyone comfortable with this kind of dialogue which seems to becoming the norm ?

Even when the main language of the film is Spanish it is used in the subtitles and it's not a Spanish word.

A Town Called Malice was a good watch C.
