Washing Machine

My washing machine has finally given up the ghost so I'm after a new one.

Any recommendations.

We have a Grundig one (who knew Grundig made washing machines???), it's about five years old, gets a lot of use, not had any problems with it.

I use the 30 min 30o programme, and an occasional very hot cycle with a washing machine cleaner in it.

Would I recommend it? Yes.

Our Hotpoint Smart(Graphite)has been very good. Price is not silly money either. Had it for 4/5 years and it has been reliable. We do not use the washing capsules/pods in it as they ruin a machine.

I've got an LG.  26 years old and good as new.

I'm on my second Miele in 45 years, just had a repair and the man said that even if i replaced it with another they're not what they used to be so don't know what I'll do if it gives up the ghost.  My daughter had a Hotpoint and been quite impressed, it gets a lot of use.

I've got a 7 year old LG...not a lot of bells and whistles but fine for my needs.

Previously had a Zanussi that lasted ages.

I'd go German...AEG, Bosch or Miele. Yes, Miele are expensive but are the Rolls-Royce of washers. Ours came with a 10-year warranty (never needed) and is now 15 years old and still purrs along faultlessly.

And, Vagus, Grundig don't make washers...it's just a bought marketing name.

They sludge up the seals, pumps and pipework with that awful polymer that holds the detergent. The stuff is toxic. It is what causes the aweful smell that sometimes developes. Most laundry is now done with a cold wash detergent and the polymer eventualy coats the innards of the drum, pipework and even gets into the bellow seal around the door because it is not fully "dissolved".. That is what all that black crud is. It is about 10 years now since we stopped using them and we have never had those issues since.

If I were buying a washing machine I would consider an Ebac, made in UK, not just assembled. 7 year warranty, good reviews

My washing machine has never had black crud.

I stopped using fabric conditioner about ten years ago as I read that is a major cause of it, not had a problem since.

If used correctly the pods are fine.

Ebac washers..."good reviews"? Not by Which?...one was a "Don't Buy" and the other "Best avoided" with very poor washing performance.

Bought my last one from AO. A Hoover brilliant machine with many different wash functions. Fully recommended and a bargain price too.

Does everyone use all the functions their machine has?

The only programme I use is 30mins 30 degrees, very very occasionally the spin if I do some handwashing (can't remember the last time I did any), and maybe every six months or so a very hot cycle with washing machine cleaner in it.

I use aerial biological washing pods, a cap of dettol laundry stuff, and a scoop of oxywhatsit if it's a white wash.
