My PC frequently has an ad. popping up advising me to buy a McAfee protection package (the price is in $) and I'm fed up with having to get rid of it.

Can I stop it permanently?

Use a malware detector to see if you have a PC infection creating ads.

 

Check the list of installed programmes to see if something McAfee is installed.

Download and run AdwCleaner (free version) to get rid of the problem: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner

Uninstall McAfee and other unnecessary software using the built-in uninstaller or third-party software such as Revo Uninstaller. https://www.revouninstaller.com/products/revo-uninstaller-free
