Good Morning Tuesday Birds!
Well its recycling day again today - cardboard/paper, general waste & food. Nxt week will be plastics ....then bk to cardboard the following wk..
So, our council sent us an email about recycling and what to do/not to do, which included the following.....
1.With small items like plastic bottle tops as long as they are attached to the empty bottle then fine but if not then pls do not put into then recycling - they are small & just jam inside the machinery, causing endless hours of work to release them. So put them in the general waste bin.
2. Unless you wash all your empty food waste jars/bottles etc again do not put them in - they simply dirty all the surrounding items and end up getting thrown out .So put them in the general waste bin.
3. Do not put in items such as crisp packets/biscuit packets..... they are non recyclable and again should be only put in the general waste. So put them in the general waste bin.....
Now, it could be me but I'm sensing a theme here lol!
I honestly thought, and still do, that everything got washed anyway, that their machines would be sorting everything small and fine, and that this wasn't an issue...
And I'm really good at recycling/sorting it all. Makes me wonder why I'm bothering!
You all ok tho??x

We used to have a small bin for food waste but they cancelled that and now food waste goes into general, unless you use it for compost. My council produced coloured labels that stick on the recycle bin what is/isn't allowed. Unfortunately they appear to be "fine tuning" it so I make sure on the top I have something I am positive about. Funnily enough I produce far more recycleable waste than general.
Weather here is grey and mizzly, think it's a day for staying in and finding indoor jobs.
Morning calda! Yes very dark, grey and damp here - yucky!
im really good at recycling - I quite like it lol. The food thing bothers me for a start tho - I mean we have a separate small food caddy outside for food waste, and so did in-laws until their recent house move. Now their new council doesn't collect food waste, they say just put it in with general waste! So they just recycle some peoples and not others? Why? What's the point just a few of us doing it, or does it all go in general waste in the end anyway??
Morning Smow and all who follow. Its recycling for us too today, but a different combination ie bin 1 garden waste +
separate container for paper/cardboard and another bin 2 for cans/ bottles/stiff plastics. AS supermarkets here are now collecting "soft" plastics we are colleting plastic wrappings/bags/covers and its amazing the amount that is generated in our food shopping. I just hope all our efforts are worth while and that it is not disposed of in an incinerater.
Its grey clouds here but rain is not forecast. Its been a difficult few days for me as there have been several dates that bring the memories and tears flooding back, but we carry on carrying on.
Have a happy day y'all
Good morning, our's is collected tomorrow, so we will be sorting out this evening. We have a food waste caddy in the house which is then transferred to a larger caddy. We are allowed to line them with with anything as they have a machine that separates the lining out. Then 2 crates with several stickers on each telling us what can go in them. On top of that a green wheelie bin which says recycling but we have to put our general rubbish in it!!! That one is only collected fortnightly.
Bit different to old house, we had 3 wheelie bins, 1 general, 1 all recycling and 1 for garden waste. Before the election the government said they were going to make all councils use the same system, which would be our old one.
No wonder we are all confused.
Oh well, off to foot the ladder for Mr U who has decided to clear the guttering at the front. Terrifies me as the ladder has to go up on the balcony and is on the top floor, so a big drop.
Our council is really 'on the ball' about waste. There is a large brown bin for food waste (plus a small under-the-sink bin with corn-based liners) and garden clippings etc.. They make it into compost and you can claim 1 or 2 free bags once a year. Pretty good. Collected last week - every other week.
Just had 'blue' bin collected - that's paper, tins, plastic bottles etc.. Every other week.
Then the Green bin for plastic film, hard plastics e.g. broken plastic plantpots - there's not a lot that goes in there, really - every other week.
A couple of years ago we (E. Riding of Yorkshire) were top in the UK for recycling, but I think we slipped to 2nd last year.
Good afternoon!
We have two large plastic bins, one green one for glass, plastic, and a grey for household waste. The small grey one for food waste. Also a large green box for paper & cardboard. Once a week household and food waste go out, then second week all recycling & food waste. We can but a large plastic bin for garden waste if we want, which is collected fortnightly. Recycling was collected this morning with food waste. I have read that a lot of all this gets thrown in with general waste! Hope not, a lot of people diligently sort all this out regularly! Anyway, hope all are feeling OK and doing OK. 😀
