Last week the Serious Fraud Office investigated the building of a hotel and conference centre in Birmingham by the Unite Union, using £112 million of its members money: the complex has since been valued at £29 million.

So what was the Serious Fraud Office's conclusion and what are they doing about it?

I'm not at all surprised to hear this though...

They've learned how to do this by examining government contracts for massive projects. Just an homage to the underhand dealings so prevalent in the construction sector espescially when joined with a lack of effective oversight.

I can’t remember when I first read about this in Private Eye, years ago – probably before the hotel had been fully built.
