I just did 5 mile on my exercise bike, the most ever in one sitting. What do you think.

It's progress. How long did it take?

I dont time myself because you can end up pushing yourself to much. The whole idea is just to get some gentle exercise not to beat myself up. Do a lot of sitting when fishing hence the bike. However it does have a pretty good heart rate meter, its been showing 80 to 90. Ok for an old un

I also only have it set 4.

to improve aerobically you need to do at least 20 minutes at at least 80% of max heart rate (MHR=220-age). The time is much more important than the distance.

That may be so, but i tend to disagree simpley because only i know what my body is telling me to do and what not. Every day can have a different feeling. Todays feeling told me I could carry on.

I think I'd rather get on my actual bike and ride 5 miles. However, I'm far too lazy, and out of practice. So well done for your indoor 5 miles.

So boring though. I've got a rowing machine, but I'm bored to death after a minute on it.

I've got a cross trainer, I do 30 mins listening to music, I have a 400 song play list I go round. Still a bore but bearable.

Cloverjo, I did consider a road bike, but being a driver I've seen some very close encounters with bikers and lorries whitevan men and just in general the massive increase in road traffic., not to mention pot holes. Great if you live in the country side. Its safe in my spare room and listen to some music at the same time dont really get bored.

That doubled me up with the giggles TCL. got to be the BA for a long time :○))))

I'm not mad about my road bike now, nicebloke, thinking about it.
I used to happily get on my bike with a toddler on the back, and with shopping bags hanging off my arms. Wouldn't do it now.

So, yes, back to the beginning. It's great that you did 5 miles on your indoor one. Is this daily, weekly, regularly?

I have a cross trainer that isn't boring because my machines hooks up to exercise videos that control my machine.  I can be climbing Snowdon one day and running round Thailand the next. Fab trainers.

I do between 26 and 52 miles a week

I watched a program of folks climbing Sharp Edge on Blencathra. I'm exhausted now!

,..........and how far did that get you nicebloke?

Davebro, I once stumbled on a tv programme showing fell racing in Cumbria, I think.  That exhausted me

Sharp Edge was the last walk I did in the Lake District Barry. I would love to repeat it but I don't think that's going to be possible.

Fabulous walking country, we've done a lot of walks there but wouldn't consider running up and down the fells.  We miss our walks and hikes

We have an exercise bike and a treadmill in the garage. They used to get used a lot but not for many months now. I find using both very very very very boring even with music, much prefer taking the dog for a walk.

We too have spent many good times walking in the countryside, up and down dale and hills, got to the top of Snowdon six months after a hip replacement.

These days we do gentle walks on the level, still do quite a distance but nowhere near what we used to.

I think you did well, nicebloke 👍
