Is The Office For Value For Money Poor Value For Money?
Set up to advise the Chancellor, the title of the new Government department could have come straight from the pages of Orwell's 1984. An independent chairman who has come in for considerable criticism on other projects he's been involved in, has been appointed and is expected to work one day a week. He will be paid £950 per day.
I could very easily have put this in 'Jokes' - but it's not - unfortunately.

Total days in a year = 365
Minus 52 weekends (Sat/Sun) = 104
Bank holidays = 8
Personal holidays = 27
Total non-working day a year = 139
Total working days = 365-138 = 226 @ £950/day = £215k
Some people’s maths on AB is severely lacking.
This isn't really about his 'annual' salary. It's about the fact that the Chancellor has seen fit to establish a new department headed by a man earning more than her and the Prime Minister, and supported by twenty staff - and all to tell her - an economist - what and what is not value for money. What the total cost to the tax-payer is I can't say - but value for money? I doubt it very much. But then Labour always was good at spending - and wasting - other people's money.
