Aimed at businesses like Amazon that occupy large properties, new tax hikes mean that hundreds of NHS hospitals, universities and police stations will face a new Government levy under an “ill-thought-out” overhaul of business rates rules.   Properties with a rateable value of £500,000 or more will face a new higher multiplier.

Analysis of official Government data by Altus Group found that this new high street “levy” will apply to 1,589 large distribution warehouses.  However,  the analysis found that 297 NHS Hospitals will be subject to the new “levy” including major hospitals such as the Royal London Hospital, Royal Derby Hospital, Bristol’s Southmead Hospital.  Additionally, 310 universities and 309 further education colleges will also face the levy as well as 10 properties used by the Metropolitan Police Service including New Scotland Yard.  Over 200 Government properties from military barracks to court buildings to prisons will also face the increase, the data showed.

It's just occurred to me that perhaps from the Treasury's point of view it isn't so bonkers.  Is it just another way of syphoning off more of the taxpayers' money?

It's a blerdy shambles, that's what it is

“ill-thought-out”.  Labour - who'd have think it.

They really are the Prty that keep on giving, it would be difficult to make it up, people would just say you are being rediculous.

But here we are.

Yep the tuck shop tealeaf is clueless.

Public sector estates will probably be( discretely) given higher subsidies to compensate  it wouldn't be good optics to insist they find this extra money from service cuts...

Yeah right.  Robber Reeves and SIR 2TK really havnt a clue.

Well its all ammo for Kemi.
