“It is not open to debate whether Trump speaks complete nonsense or not –“
But that’s the nub of this problem – much of it is open to debate. According to your definition of “nonsense” it may not be, but yours is not the only interpretation to be put on what he says.
“If anyone disagrees with the above, I will post a small selection of Trump speaking complete nonsense and you can see for yourself.”
Please don’t bother. The issue is not about whether or not Trump speaks nonsense. It is whether other people can be the arbiters of which way it is “acceptable” to vote. What you or I say on that topic is largely unimportant. I just find it irritating when you begin your posts with “It is not open to debate…” (or similar) when it very clearly is. But there is a sizeable number of what (only for the purpose of his argument) I will call “influencers”. And about 99% of them all believe in one thing – they are right and everybody else is wrong. The world’s nations must not be governed by the Trumps, the Johnsons or the Farages. They must only be governed by the people of whom they approve. This was evident with Brexit, with Trump One, with Johnson and now with Trump 2.
Even Kemi Badenoch came in for a pasting a week ago. She’s obviously unacceptable. As soon as the result was announced jibes of “coconut” surfaced with one Labour MP describing her as "the most prominent member of white supremacy's black collaborator class". Why is this? Mrs Badenoch is a woman and is black. What’s the problem? The problem that makes her unacceptable is that she is Right of Centre and has opinions on (what the influers believe are) the great issues of our time (racism, colonialism, gender identity) that are not “on message.”
Obviously for them a second Trump term was unthinkable. There are many of them in the UK – some of whom I’ve mentioned. There is a Left leaning UK journalist by the name of Andrew Scott who writes under the pseudonym of Otto English in the US “Politico” online publication. His contribution to the post-election analysis went thus:
“This election has proved that millions of Americans are misogynistic, climate-change denying, racist *** lunatics.”
These smug people live in their own sheltered circles where they rarely mix with anybody who holds contrary opinions or who has the everyday problems that most people have. They find it perfectly acceptable to refer to “the ignorant unwashed masses” in this way and find it impossible to accommodate anybody who does not share their opinions.
Regretfully, you seem to display exactly the same qualities.
