No Milk Or No Idea?

Passed a Greggs today and a notice outside stated, ( only serving black coffee today, NO MILK. So the button they press for white coffee on the machine must have stopped working. There was a supermarket 20yards away with shelves full of milk?? Do they have managers running these shops or just machines. Not that i drink their rubbish.:●)

I was in a hotel once and I asked for a vodka and Diet Coke. The waiter brought just the vodka and said 'Sorry, we've run out of Diet Coke.' Husband said 'Can't someone get some from the shop next door?'

'No, can't do that', was the reply. So Husband got up and went to the shop, tutting loudly, to get the Diet Coke. 

So silly and non-thinking.

Ha ha!  Similar happened to me in Malta once.  The breakfast orange juice on offer in the hotel was simply diluted orange squash - I went across the road to a shop and bought proper orange juice and used that for a few days.  Management asked me to stop. I refused.  

Guess what?  Yup, proper OJ was on offer after that!

it's likely (IMO) that gregs is staffed by minimum wage, minimum age staff, who are unlikely to have the cash on them to go buy milk fr a coffee shop for  whole day

My friend asked for cheese and crackers after a meal, no bother she was told. I saw the waiter going out to the adjacent shop and coming back with a packet of crackers under his arm, now that IMO shows initiative!

Businesses whatever business that maybe only need to remember one thing. When customers stop coming through the door, the owner along with the staff go out the door and lock it behind them for good.

I was in a (not inexpensive) restaurant about to devour my rare fillet steak that had just been placed in front of me.

"Could I have some English mustard please?"

"Sorry sir. we've run out. We have some French, will that do?"

"French mustard? On a fillet steak? Do you think they'd have any English in that Tesco Express next door?"

"I don't know sir"

"I'll pop round and see, shall I?"

Waiter disappeared mumbling. I shot next door and returned with a jar of Coleman's before my chips got too cold.

When the bill came I said "I'm sorry, I can't leave you a tip as I've spent all my spare cash on this mustard. I can't even leave you that because I'll need it for the next time I come in."

Needless to say, there was no next time.

Cricke commentator Henry "Blowers" Blofeld was appearing on "Room 101" and said he would like to see restaurants and hotels which have no English mustard consigned to room 101. He said that he always carried a tin of Coleman's mustard powder in his glove box and would ask if chef could kindly mix some up for him. Round about 18:00 minutes:

Unfortunately, Greggs staff will not have access to petty cash to purchase milk, they will have to get their supplies from nominated suppliers.

Whilst it may seem like common sense to you, but you can't expect the staff to pay for supplies and not be able to claim the money back.

Apparently Colman's invented French mustard in 1936. They were told to stop selling it in the EU in 2001. Also apparently French's mustard is American. I say "apparently" because I'm quoting fro Wikipedia.

Wasn't there another Greggs nearby, they seem to be everywhere. Then either you could have gone there and got milk, or they could have done a branch-to-branch transfer using the approved procedure.

IF it was the milk that had run out & not a problem with the machine they probably have quality control procedures where they can only source from vetted suppliers.

I have been in eating establishments who supply packets labelled English mustard, but when tried the flavour/heat are more like a yellow French or American (not much difference between those two) mustard. Oughtta sue under trades description act !

I don't think the waiter was offering me French's mustard. I think he meant French mustard (e.g. Dijon or similar). Ghastly stuff and I cannot imagine what you might use it for, but none of it would ever go near any steak that I was about to eat.

The problem being that many have little idea between ghastly stuff and quality condiments. A good meal can turn out to be average without the right addition.

You have a few generations reared on BBQ sauce, well its brown and sweet that will do. :○)
