Starmer was asked at today's PMQ whether he intended to raise Council Taxes,a question that he refused to answer.

It now seems that the Government have given the green light for the to be increased by 5%. How many more hidden tax rises can we expect from this lot?

Another lie then

/// How many more hidden tax rises can we expect from this lot?///

Enough to fill the hole in the economy left by the other lot.

I believe I've been paying 4.9% council tax increase every April for the past 4 years or more.

I had an email from my council this week asking if I'd find an 8% rise acceptable next year on light of the huge deficit in the council's budget

Webbo did they say pre election that the would not increase council tax?

I hope they did promise that.  It's all been bad news for us. The W.F.A. removal has hit us fairly hard as  (because of OH's heart problems at the moment) we have to keep the house at c. 22C - even then he is sometimes looking white and cold and having to go to bed to get warm.

Increased Council tax....... we get little in our village for it! OK the Waste-bin collections are great........ that's about it. 2 buses a week? Oh! and they cut the grass on the village green and cut the verges of the approaching roads 3 times a year.

They said no tax increases

jourdain. Maybe I'm wrong, but there's social services, education, highway maintenance, housing, and probably many other expenses which they have to cover. Imagine a world without those things.

Atheist - our roads are riddled with potholes. I have a new suspension break every 2 years on average. Council workers I've chatted to said that they were sorry for people living on the edges of areas because they got nothing.  We are 400m from N. Yorkshire.

Yes, local school - in fant/juniors takes from 10 miles around inc. N. Yorks..

I understand all these things, including paying for the secondary schooling 10 miles away. Happy to do so, in fact.

We expect to pay for these things - but a reasonable amount.  Perhaps it is time for a more pro-rata calculation, given the few services we have in the village?

jourdain. How do you know what is a reasonable amount to pay? Every analysis and report to the public costs money and often involves public consultation and stat collection, then analysis of the stats and consultation results and then re-consultation and so on. It's a hard life.

Atheist we also have to pay for the illegals they send us,imagine a world without that.

WEBBO, the Labour Manifesto made no mention of council tax.

The manifesto stated, "Labour will not increase taxes on working people, which is why we will not increase National Insurance, the basic, higher, or additional rates of Income Tax, or VAT."

Another council tax rise to pay for incompetent, useless councils to squander and waste our money.

A council tax rise is a tax on the working people, they will be paying more money of of their pockets
