I have to confess that though I am a decent enough cook, mince pies are one thing that I've somehow managed to avoid making lol. However, seeing as MrSmow absolutely adores them, and he has been working so hard, I want to make him some. So who's got their tried and tested recipes for me to have a go at?

The BBC Good Food website is often a good source of recipes.  This one gets 5 stars from reviewers:

Ive been in hospital some time and dont know when I'll be home so cant give you precise recipe.  But basically its a good short pastry with orange rind added and then on too of the mincemeat you put az dollop of Philly cheese  beaten up with orange juice before covering with pastry lid.  It seems to mellow  the sweetness of the mincemeat.

I think but cant be sure its a very old Jocelyn Dimbleby  recipe if you want to Google x

Just make sure you have decent mince. Beef chuck is recommended

My wholemeal bread pudding almost tastes the same as MP by thd time I've finished adding everything i have at hand. Mixed fruit by the bucket load, walnuts, dates, honey. Yummy.

Something I've never made. Although I like a couple at Christmas time (boughten ones) it's only me that likes them, apart from DiL.

Lazy me ........ Ready-made shortcrust pastry and a jar of good mincemeat to which I add a little brandy. 😋

Nothing wrong with that, Hazlinny.

Suet is essential in the fruity mince, and brandy

OG, think I'll pass on the beef chuck lol : )

I can't cook so M&S mince pies do for me.

The only problem with them is you open the box for one and continue eating 'til they're all gone.

Your poor blood sugar level.

Now do we have our mince pies as they are, or with a dollop of cream or something??

A nice mug of tea washes them down

I used to like mine warm with Bailey's ice cream, or clotted cream ice cream with Bailey's poured over it.

No wonder I became diabetic *no moderation*

Brandy butter with mine
