Artists on the AB
15 Answers
Was just wondering are there many artists on the AB? If so, what kind of art do you create? Are you an amateur or a professional artist and If you sell your art, how do you sell it? How did you start up as an artist? In advance, thanks for your replies. :o)

I wont post my URL it will cause problems as I sell through my web sites and I will be accused of advertising, I have posted my URL before but I dont want to cause trouble, so I have just posted links to a few of my pieces.
The first is one of my first pieces being a full size classical guitar all in steel.

The second being a Runic Charm Box, this was made for my sister as a wedding present http://www.tinypic.com/48m05mu.jpg
The third is a steel cabinet, we have this in our lounge and we have candles in it, an amazing effect of the light flickering against the bright steel. http://www.tinypic.com/40kwoja.jpg
The fourth is a childs chair made on a musical theme, it was never actually made for a child to sit in, more of an art piece, but it appears to be very comfortable when sat in. http://www.tinypic.com/43y0qyh.jpg

hi Carakeel.
yes there prob are artists of many different kinds on here, i am a wildlife artist and earn my living at this, i sell through galleries through the web i also do different fares which can bring in commisions and sell where ever i can, you have to always be looking for different outliets to sell your art as this is the only way to make ends meet, you also have to be versitile to meet public needs and vouges, galleries vary alot in what commision they take and i have found that some i have used vary from 25 to 45 % which eats into your profite. Hope this has helped

Thanks for you answers. It would be nice if we could share some of our work here. Can any of you post a photo please?
derec55 I'd love to see your work. Did you study art? Thanks for your advice. Please can you post a link to some of your work? I've exhibited in three large shows so far and have two commissions to work on at the moment, which is nice.
Narolines how fascinating! I used to make puppets for my children many years ago. I also play the guitar, sing a bit and have been known to write a song or two, but not professionally. My son was a musician though. What kind of music do you play? Can you post a photo of your puppets please?
Naz, you didn't tell us what kind of music you do ... I'd love to know.

I don't earn my living through art, but when I have time I like to paint (not for a while now, but have done nudes, water colours, and want to try sumi-e next), take (black-and white) photographs (will be setting up my darkroom again after our move next week), do patchwork, make carneval/halloween costumes, and knit.
Am I an artist?
Or just a creativist?

Bohne, I think you can call yourself an amateur artist. I'd love to see some of your work if you can put it on here.
I've just realised that I keep asking others to put a link on here to let us see their work, but haven't done that myself yet. So my apologies to all, here goes :

I'm in the same position as Ratter, in that I sell from my website and I fear it might contravene the AB code if I were to post a link. (there are also a couple of pictures of me on it, and you'd only be disappointed!). I will try posting some pics on a third-party hosting site when I've got a few minutes to spare.
