Did the receptionist suggest anything? Ring again and ask them to find out what he can be given.

Nooo!  Take him to another vet.  You can't leave him with that for a week!  How do you know he has toothache?

Question Author

I think he might have toothache, I don't actually know.  The vet asked the guy who takes him if we had considered he might have toothache and we hadn't.  We thought it was something wrong with his feet as he wouldn't leave off nibbling his toes.

No Tilly the receptionist didn't suggest anything.

Well, they should!

If his teeth were aching surely he would be rubbing the side of his mouth with his paw.

I'd change my vets if I were you. That service is unacceptable.

So, he's been seen by a vet who has suggested he has toothache but didn't offer any kind of pain relief?

That's not good.

Pester them, LB.

Take him to another vet, LB.  Don't hesitate.

Question Author

Thing is I can't get to the vets myself, I'm disabled.

The person who normally takes him is on holiday.

Aspirin can be given to dogs in pain.

I have about every pill except Aspirin!

I will try and get some for tomorrow through Amazon.

Off now to do that.

Thank you all for your help.  Bye for now.

If you can't get to the Vet's it might be worth looking at the Cinnamon Trust.  They have voluneers who can do that for you.

He should be seen if he is in a lot of pain.  Won't the vet give you a bottle of Metacam/Loxicam for pain relief. You can't buy it, it has to be prescribed. We always have a bottle in stock for our cats. It is a pain relief for cats and dogs.

Clove oil helps me.. Not sure about dogs though

I would be careful giving any form of human medication to an animal without the advice of a vet first.

Question Author

I was a member of the Cinnamon Trust but gave it up.

Tilly, the chap with the vet was not the dogs owner so wasn't in the position to give any instructions/orders without my say so.  He's asleep by my side on the sofa now.  Dog not vet.

Sorry - didn't think you had to be a member to get help from them.

Don't be sorry 237, you've nothing to apologise for. I think you're right.

Furry I might have some Metacam or Loxicam.  I'll check.

I know I`m right ;)

Question Author

No I haven't.

He's still fast asleep.

Absolutely do not administer clove oil to a dog (as has been mentioned).

If you can get your hands on some metacam, go with that.  Even if you can contact a neighbour or someone local who has some.  Do not give the dog metacam for 24 hours before you visit the vet though since they will then be unable to administer a stronger painkiller.

I wasn't going to Barmaid thanks.

He's missing his BFF from across the corridor.  He knows when he's not there.  Be interesting to see how he acts when his dog walker comes to walk him tomorrow.  At least he's sleeping now which is good.
