Four ladies who want a city break not too far from the airport. We are happy to travel to the less well-known cities - a friend suggested Varna in Bulgaria and we will certainly consider that one, but we will obviously consider the major cities as well. We've done Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Krakow, Athens, Venice, Reykjavik and Lisbon between us and don't really want to go to anywhere we've already been to.

Thanks in advance.

Edinburgh?

Brugge is superior to Ghent.

Have you considered Edinburgh?

Nice is a fabulous for a city break.

Come out of the airport, walk 100m and get on the tram which runs right across the city; you're in the city centre in 15mins.

Dublin? Belfast? Cardiff?

Liverpool

Travellers Rest ..maybe ...They have a very good bar.

I'm going to Edinburgh with my husband in August for Oasis - only for 2 nights.

Gulliver, when was the last time you saw the light of day?

Malmö and Copenhagen make a great combination.  They're almost next door to each other, with the Oresund Crossing linking the two together via frequent train and bus services. They're both lovely cities, which are compact and easily explored on foot.  You could stay in either.

A city which I wasn't expecting to be too impressed with, but which absolutely stunned me with everything that it had to offer, was Berlin:

Thank you, Buenchico. We are thinking of taking the kids to Copenhagen maybe next year, especially for the Tivoli Gardens. I think Malmo is best avoided these days though from what I have heard. Copenhagen is apparently one of the happiest places in the world.

I'd quite like to go to Berlin but no one seems interested when I mention it.

Gulliver... who's Bobbie?

Seville is beautiful and interesting; just check temperatures as it's extremely hot there in the summer months.

Amsterdam is good fun.

Dublin is great and Cardiff has a lot to offer.

I've never really fancied Amsterdam but do fancy Dublin. Two of the group have toured Ireland extensively though so I'll probably save that one for another time when I'm away with my husband.

Newmodarmy, you beat me to it. Obviously some childish sort of insult.

Another Cardiff vote from me - especially if it includes adjacent Cardiff Bay.

What about Hannover ?  And take in the Christmas markets.

It's only 6 miles from the airport to the city centre. And there is a train station at the airport to get you there.

Been there numerous times, and I love it.

Berlin is also very nice, as is Vienna

Prague -wonderful.

^^^ Eat in the restaurant built into the wall of the Ghetto, which was planned to be a museum of living Judaism by the Nazis.

Budapest - great town, great country with a pretty sharp leader.
