watching the rise and fall of rome last nite, on bbc2, and it showed Constantines new christian symbol which he displayed on all his sheilds et al.
But what did the P represent? i understand the cross but not the P.

Chi-Rho (X and P) is an early Christian symbol probably because they form the firt two letters of "Christ" written in Greek.

You've no need to impress me, Octavius...I've appreciated your thorough expositions for some time. I simply felt it necessary to point out that the English Jesus Christ, isn't the basis for the originally asked question, which, I believe you stated in your other wise succint answer.
