Our Post Office wont accept mail destined for Canada at the moment because Canadian postal services are on strike and all the mail is stuck in sorting offices here.  Just a heads up.

I just broke a cup in the kitchen while making a coffee.

Thanks Naomi. I usually send one to my sister in Alberta. I'll just send he an e card this year.

Does that apply to cards and letters Naomi or just parcels?

It seems to be everything, Togo.  I was only sending a card.

Oh Damn. I wonder whether to just put the stamps on it and put a card in the post box. £2.80 I think is the rate.

Togo, I had several to send abroad - I don't know how much they were individually,  I just paid the bill.

Odd that this advice doesn't feature on their website.

P.O. Counter staff said   ...  "We have had no notification that we can accept packages or post for Canada yet". When I asked when they, and indeed we, had been informed that post could not be accepted it went a bit quiet. Evasive is probably the word. Apparently mail for Canada is blocking our sorting offices. Why? We should be sending it and inconveniencing them at their end. I put 2 first class stamps on each and put the two cards in the post box. Haha we will email them anyway.

Same thing happened a few years ago - Xmas mail was not delivered in Canada due to strike - a calendar I sent was received by friends in March!

//According to the union, its list of demands includes wage increases aligned with inflation, enhancements to group benefits — such as coverage for fertility treatments and gender-affirming care //

Why have the P.O. not made this refusal to take the mail know to the public? Imagine if you have gone to the trouble to wrap and secure a parcel then driven, paid the parking fee and then walked to or caught the bus to a post office. Be a bit galling would it not. All to show solidarity with the Canadian gender confused.

Why is it not bunging up Canadian sorting offices was my thought too.  Perhaps there's no one working for Canada's post office services to fetch it from the airports/docks so they're stuck with it.
