I am trying to transfer some MP3's from one portable hard drive to another, for backup.

Some of the files flash a message saying 'The file is write protected, remove the write protection or use another file'.

As usual with technology, it tells me what the problem is, but not how to fix it!

How do I remove the write protection from the affected MP3's please?

Andy have you check the security option under properties?

I've come across this thread while searching for an answer to the exact same problem I have with a USB stick, so thought it easier to comment here rather than start a new one :)

I can't delete any files, can't scan & repair or format the drive - write protected but no physical switch on the stick - & no Security tab in Properties. When I check the Properties of the individual files, Read Only is checked but if I uncheck it, I get error Media is write protected.

I've followed all the advice in the comments, to the end. Downloaded AOMEI Partition Assistant via Tora's link, but when I came to format the partition - it said that wasn't included in the demo version ! Would be cheaper to buy a new stick ...

Have never had a problem with this stick before (not one I've used very often), don't know what's caused it, & I've obviously written files to it in the past  !
Does anyone have any other suggestions ?

My only suggestion is start a new thread, very few people will see this as it won't show in recent threads.

You can post a link to this thread if you want to
