Did anyone else find this programme quite upsetting. I know the dog had to be put to sleep but it was still sad for the owners. I sat and cried!

Hammer Head, what is the point of you even entering into this discussion when it is obvious that this kind of thing upsets quite a number of people.
Having a pet for years and then having to have it put down is a horrible thing to go through. We had a cat for around 9 years (since i was about 8) and we had to have him put down and it was a horrible thing to go through, because he had become part of the family.
You obviously are cold-hearted and never had to go through this, and i hope that you never have pets.
So it is not just a dog its part of the family, as are all other pets, and its heart breaking when they die or have to be put down.
Cold-hearted or a realist. I grew up in a farming community so I learned that whilst you may get attached to animals you don't need this huge outpouring of grief when they die.

If your dog dies you get another one simple as that.
Yes you can get another dog( and you can sometimes get another child though it takes longer) but that doesn't stop you having a strong emotional attachment to a pet, and unruliejulie is simply empathising with the owner in the programme. I know some farmers, and yes, I think some of them very cold-hearted (as well as realistic if wer'e talking about the meat industry) but even they get upset at a pet dog or cat dying. But I hope you do have a dog one day, because you may not be so glib about it.

So lol makes it OK then does it. If we were talking face to face and you insult me, I think it would make things worse if you then laughed out loud.

hammerhead, im sorry if you felt that i insulted you! all i can say is you are very much mistaken, that was NOT meant as an insult. My word, i could do much better than that if i intended to sling insults. I had no need to insult because you are entitled to your opinion! Truth is, i do not insult people on answerbank. Not my stlye. It really was just a lighthearted joke. Shame you just couldnt see that without rearing up at me!
