My dentist and I have agreed that the time has come for drastic treatment.  All remaining teeth to be extracted and replaced with dentures.

This isn't going to be cheap.  I think about £1000.

How much would a dentist be paid by the NHS for similar work?

Do you have any dental teaching hospitals near you?

Question Author

There is a dental school in the Royal Victoria Hospital.  They might do the extractions there , but I doubt if they'd do the dentures.

£319.10

No wonder dentists are reluctant to take on NHS work.

£1k is extremely cheap for private work

I work in a dental hospital whis was a teaching hospital with students doing lots of treatment, they have moved to their own teaching hospital now but do lots of treatment for free, crowns, bridges, filling false teeth, ive had loads of treatment done costing thousands of pounds all for free.

Isnt that what you pay rather than what the Dentist gets "paid"?

The patient pays the NHS dentist for all the work including the dentures. He gets paid more by the NHS

Webbo, in my area you can access the teaching hospital by referral from your dentist.

You can self refer to the one in Bristol but to come to the main Dental hospital its referal only
