If you had to kill your own food, could you?

I'll eat almost everything, but the thought of dispaching a calf or slaughtering a lamb for dinner is something that I couldnt do.

Ive caught (and killed) my own trout when I was younger but couldnt imagine killing anything larger.

(and Ive worked on a farm)

What I'm trying to say is it comes down to needs.

Ive "mercy" killed smaller animals,,,,kitten, hamster, chickens,,,,when needed to, but the thought of killing anything bigger???

Yes, I know what you mean but if you were out in the wild and the only thing to eat was say deer would you do it? I know I would.

And then having done it I suspect there would be less qualms next time.

I'm a vegetarian and I wouldn't kill anything bigger than a hornet, unless I was threatened by something, or unless I was forced to kill to eat or defend someone. I wouldn't make a good job of it though, so would probably go in really hard and fast. Gutting and eating would be a big problem.

I've worked in small slaughterhouses any years ago, when animals were treated with respect and slaughtered humanely.
I have fished and shot all my life, but I have always returned fish and given game, rabbits, etc. a sporting chance.

On another note, I abhor fox hunting

I'm not a vegitarian or vegan.

But that might change if I had to kill my own food...

Plucking an apple from a tree is a lot different from slaughtering an animal.

I killed a sheep that I found injured - it was being eaten alive by maggots.

I've caught, skinned, cleaned and cooked rabbits in my yoof. I can only imagine the main difference with anything larger would be the amount of blood.

Luckily my stomach is not easily turned. 😉

Having worked with chickens on a farm the wringing of necks is never pleasent but is quick if the chicken is injured or in pain.

Also put down smaller pets over the years. Again, never pleasent but better than lingering deaths.
