I've always thought that it was blue and green should never be seen. My Gran was adamant about that. Though funnily enough her favourite headscarf had both blue and green on it, but I wouldn't have dared point that out!
Well if green and blue should never be seen then nature got it rather wrong ... i.e. green pastures and hills and beautiful blue skies LOL! And if it is green and red it is equally nonsense in my eyes - i.e. does that mean I shouldn't have red roses with green stems and leaves then? I am an artist and to be honest neither of these apply ! Just because these old sayings are still being handed down does not mean that they are correct. If these were to be followed all of us painters would be out of a job very quickly and we our natural countryside would have to be sent back from whence it came for a major repair job! LOL
In my childhood - an awfully long time ago! - the chant was "Red and green should never be seen except upon an Irish queen."
So, whilst it may well be nonsense, Carakeel, it is what girls sang! And they weren't on about flowers, but colours worn by people...ie a green sweater and a red skirt, for example, was a no-no combination apparently.
I heard it as "Red and green should never be seen, except on the dress of the Fairy Queen". And Trakcab's right, if you see both the red and green lights on a ship, then it's headed straight for you!.
i think now green and blue are really trendy colours together and they are really fashionable. like others have said it is really only red and green or pink and green never to be seen so dont worry. i wear them together so i shouldnt worry. xxxx
