Anyone here favours the Deist view, or prefers the Theist?

(Deist sits on the edge of creation paring his nails. Theist keeps an eye on everyone (including 'aliens') and steps in when necessary.)

Khandro, What do you want me to say?  I don't believe the universe was created?  You know that.  I can't define something I don't believe in.

Question Author

Khandro, do you believe in a god?

If one denies there is any type of diety, how can one come up with a definition of the "one" that they deny ?

The question seems invalid.

Precisely, OG.

OG; If you can't describe what you are denying, then why deny it, & how do you know what it is you are denying?

I assume you don't believe in Father Christmas,  but if I ask you to describe this persona (in which you don't believe) you will undoubtedly have no problem in doing so.

Why can't you do it for God, in which you equally don't believe?

Khandro, I don't believe that a supernatural creator exists.  Therefore there is nothing to describe.  Why is that so difficult for you to understand?  I could go down the route of Michelangelo and tell you that my perception of God is like his - an elderly white bloke with a bushy beard - but I won't.

I can describe Father Christmas - I saw him once in Macy's in New York.

Question Author

Khandro. Why should atheists define something they believe not to exist?

They could I suppose say that they don't believe in an uncreated creator, and they might add that they don't believe in a god which gets involved in the affairs of its creations. Or a god which is infinitely loving and merciful. And (perhaps at the same time) wrathful and jealous of its power.

How would you define god?

Like a lot of people, Khandro seems to have a problem believing that others think differently.  How can they possibly not think like him?

My description of (a) god would be "Any supernatural being that the theist believes exists".

Khandro - wise up, god(s) only exist in the minds of the gullible.

Atheist //How would you define god?//

I don't, - God is ineffable.

Khandro, if you can't describe something you do believe in, how on earth do you expect people who don't believe to provide a description?

Question Author

Khandro. If god is ineffable, then how on earth are we expected to define it? (You missed a bit on the left earlobe)

Atheist //If god is ineffable, then how on earth are we expected to define it? //

It is I who say God is ineffable, you seem not to think so, because you have a clear picture of what God is not.

Or do you agree with me?

Question Author

Khandro, I don't think that god is ineffable or not ineffable any more than I think that the devil or the teapot orbiting the sun is ineffable or ineffable. Anyway, the earlobe is looking better now.

Are there multiple Father Christmases ? In which case deny them all.

In Vedic, or strictly speaking, Upanishadic terms;

'not this, not that'. 🙂
