Just had a demand to pay back tax credits. Quite a big amount even tho I was always upfront with them.

Has anyone paid back in installments before??

Thanks.

Have they told you how the overpayment has occurred?

Do you have evidence that you have told them of the changes?

When you continued to receive a higher amount - did you tell them?

Have you kept the money or have you spent it?

You can pay back in installaments based on your circumstances

You will have to ask the MWSD, as DDIL says everyone is different.

Word of advice; Dont lie to them.

2023 I had my old company pay me a lump sum of pension. I phoned hmrc and said thanks for telling us. We will make adjustments?

I'm 66 and retired on state pension with 4 kids on own. 2 are 16 and under. Hopefully will sort it.

Surprised they left it this long.

I had a visit from them many moons ago when they thought I was at the rob.

I had misread/misunderstood the period for which they wanted details. What a relief when the lightbulb moment happened.

They're quite civilised if you play straight with them.

oh yeah and so the lump sum took you over the pension credit dooah

They have ( surprise surprise)  the power to demand payment immediately and any installment plan must be agreed

and rule 1 - dont take on the tax man, they have a lorra lorra loo=-loo to squash an OAP. ( I have an acct

moustacchioed little hitlers

I had a letter from my acct., " your taxman has assessed you on the tunover without expenses of your brother's business -for four years "

I found that provided you're honest they are friendly and helpful.

the difficulty is when ( perhaps after an anonymous tip off from Mrs Mopp " a concerned tax oayer") they are told you are not. And they get the bit between the teethc
