Won't be able to look at anyone on the street next. For sure it wasn't good protocol/behaviour but it is on the level of a few sharp words at the time, not the idiocy of a courtroom.

This was the subject of several posts back in 2023 and I would agree with one in particular - Jenni responded to the kiss by putting her arms around his neck .. she didn't really have to do that!   They previously knew each other quite well during his time in football.

Where does she put her hands round his neck??

They hug, then while her arms are sitll halfway round his torso from the hug. he grabs her face and kisses her, before she walks away.

It doesn't matter how well she knew him, doesn't mean he can kiss her (or harass her about it afterward).

Oh Chelle - must make an appt. at Specsavers!!
When in Spain ............

I didn't realise this case was still going on, out of order definately, it was there for the whole world to see.
My thoughts are that it's belittling genuine sexual assault cases that might not be taken seriously.

I did a search for the video and found this.

I see the hug, but I do not see her hands round his neck.  I have no doubt that the hug was consensual (she hugs back); but the kiss happens after he holds her face and kisses her.  Admittedly it is brief.  A bear hug in celebration does not immediately lead to consent to being kissed on the lips.  I do agree the "sexual" part is more difficult though.

I suspect the reason this has blown up is because of his and the Spanish FA's reactions afterwards.  Instead of saying "I went too far in the heat of the moment, I am sorry I offended you" he insisted it was consensual (in my view, there was no time to consent) and he had done no wrong.  The Spanish FA accused her of lying and threatened her with legal action.

Perhaps if he had been more contrite and the Spanish FA had engaged in some joined up thinking, she might have been persuaded to say "I didn't want it, but accept he did not mean to hurt or offend me. Now let's move on and celebrate our victory."  Painting her as a liar and a "false feminist" when she was kissed in front of the whole world was hardly conducive to this ending well.

> he insisted it was consensual

In his head, I'm sure it was.  In his head, I'm sure he was thinking "I am a successful, good-looking, powerful man. Of course if I deign to kiss a football player, she will love it. I mean, who is giving who the favour here? Me bestowing my kiss on her is yet another thing she has gained, probably even better than the World Cup!"

Does anyone have an address for the remote mind reading course?

It might come in useful at some point.

OK, I'll say it one one word: "entitled"

Trying to jail him for this is madness.

I know it's not in this country but when you think about what people don't get jailed for, you can't help thinking the continent of Europe has completely lost it.

//In his head, I'm sure he was thinking "I am a successful, good-looking, powerful man//

Not spent much time (if any) in Europen sprts bars have you?

The Albanians are pretty bad for it - male or female!

clone - I don't think anyone really wants to see him behind bars but a bit of humility, from him, wouldn't go amiss.

Jenni Hermoso is on record as saying that this event 'tainted' what should have been the best day of her life.

The failure to jail really bad people doesn't mean that anyone committing a 'lesser' act ought to get a free-pass because it's not as bas as 'something else'.

We need to raise our game across the board.

Maybe he thought that by kissing her he could cure her of her lesbianism:-J

Brilliant, Ken!

🙄

Ken, I actually knew someone who was so vain he thought that by imposing himself upon a woman would cure her of such affliction.  He actually TOLD people that.  There are some right twonks out there.

or reaffirmed it. Makes no difference.

It's gone too far and become ridiculous.

He was sacked, which should be enough.

It's a very fine line they tread I think, but I share the concern of those who worry about more severe cases being diluted if the prosecution falls short.

even prostitutes get to say whether they kiss on the lips or not. Lips are private.
