Better we spot things and keep an eye on them, than to ignore it, cross fingers, and hope our luck holds.  But are they sure they've spotted everything buzzing around the solar system ?  What about dark matter asteroids ? Local black holes ?

Yawn.... do people really worry about this sort of thing?  Apart from those paid to spot asteroids and, ifnecessary, attempt to deflect them?  Nothing, apart from that, that we can do about it, so no point worrying.

jourdain; I agree, no point worrying, but we shoudn't pooh-pooh what scientists observe. We personally can't do anything about it, but others may be able to devise ways of avoiding future catastrophes. I hope you and your proches are OK.

Thanks, Atheiat, it's wonderful to have OH back from 7 weeks and 1 day in hospital after a hugely nasty bout of pneumonia.

I didn't pooh-pooh what scientists observe though, I referenced that people (presumably scientists) are paid to watch and attempt to deflect them.  Apart from that I don't see that anything can be done.

Anyway, it is lovely to be able to feel that I (as well as OH) am coming back to some sort of normality and I've even written a short story and a poem.
