With so many European competition games in a season around 8 clubs have a ridiculous fixture list and when all the international breaks are factored in which means players playing even more games, it's not surprising the top teams use the Caribou Cup and FA Cup as a chance to rest top players and give experience to fringe players and youngsters.

Not according to my OH who is glued to the TV this weekend watching the matches back to back. He's enjoying seeing the younger players and willing on the underdogs!

I only have passing interest (maybe none now) in football since my childhood; but I would agree that back in the day, doing the double (league title & FA cup) was something clubs aspired to.

But the reason is money, finishing higher up the league might get the club a very lucrative gig in Europe (the following season) – winning the FA cup will only get you the gate receipts getting there (and the Charity Shield match).

Ask Plymouth fans if the magic has gone out of the FA Cup😉

& Rovers?

I consider the FA cup Highly regarded, obviously I'm bound to say that as cup holders.

However the league cup always seemed a bit of a joke... even SAF fielded some young upstarts... Becks,Scholes,Neviiles and Butt... Giggs were a first team player before them.

Ahh, sweet FA.

I'm not a football fan, but Husband and his son are. They're always talking about how their team is doing in the league, or whatever it is.

I don't know about the players. They get paid so much, but I would hope they put their heart and soul into winning.
