Hello, my toilet cistern needs a new ball cock.
How much should I expect to pay a plumber to do this please. .
I've no idea on these things and elderly lady living alive, I don't want to get ripped off.
Thanks

The bog standard ballcock eith a plastic ball on the end can perrish and fill up with water, holding the valve open all the time. The latter a simple fix, unscrew old, screw on new. But it could be the valve its self thats worn, then you would need the whole ballcock unit, about £30 / 40 thats a guess I'm afraid £80 100 labour guess again thats the best i can offer.
Prices for a few replacement valves at Screwfix. You will see that there are Side-entry and Bottom entry types determined by where the water pipe enters the cistern. Fitting a side entry type is much simpler and quicker than the bottom-entry so will affect the cost but it's a fairly straightforward job and, I suspect, ther cost will be swamped by the call-out charge.
I would suggest you contact Age UK to ask if they could recommend someone to do it. I would not expect to pay more than £40. It's a job that any good handyman could do.
By the way, I think you meant to say "elderly lady living alone" not "elderly lady living alive". Not a criticism - it just made me giggle.
